Suxanne Purewal - author

Suzanne Purewal has been able to take life's tragedies and channel that energy into her passion; writing.

I feel a little funny about writing about Suzanne...I mean, she is a writer - with books - books that people read - books that are really good.  So, rather than to embarass myself, here is what she said about herself:

Suzanne grew up in Webster, NY. She is a graduate of Our Lady of Mercy High School, Rochester, NY. Although music and writing were her passions, she attended GMI Engineering & Management Institute, Flint, MI, to pursue a career with General Motors.

 
Never far from the surface, creativity beckoned, and she became a contributor and the editor of the school's underground paper. Shortly thereafter, she was asked to edit the school's official paper.

After graduation, she continued to further her career by earning a Master of Science degree from Kettering University, formerly known as GMI Engineering & Management Institute. Suzanne worked for General Motors and Delphi for a combined twenty-two years.

Over the years, she entertained coworkers with descriptive stories. They encouraged her to write a book. She didn't seriously consider it, until she was diagnosed with cancer. During her battle against the disease, she started writing again.

Embracing Destiny is the first of Suzanne's novels to be published. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, singing, and playing the guitar and piano. She now resides in Noblesville, IN.

She has 2 books, and a 3rd being released soon.  What better gift could there be that a book for someone who loves to read...signed by the author?  GREAT gift!

Thirty-One Gifts

CONFESSION:  I am a bag-a-holic.  I travel a lot (way too much sometimes) and have a bag for every occasion. Thing is, all my bags must match. I'm not only a bag-o-holic, but I'm obsessive about it.

I've gone though a lot of travel bags, work bags, tote bags...and was never really happy.  That is until I found Thirty-One bags! The best thing is you can initial them (OK, best thing aside from them being great quality bags).

I figured this company had a story.  Every good company and good product does, right?   So I went to the website to see what the scoop was:

BETHZA Professional Makeup Artist

BETHZA Professional Makeup Artist is one talented lady.  Putting makeup on other people's faces looks like a piece of cake - but let me tell you, it's NOT!  Her eye for beauty and color is really a God given talent, and it has been my privilege to be on the receiving end of her talents.

I was looking at Bethza's Facebook page, and it said this:

Bethza Professional Makeup Studio is bringing the big city fashion and trends of makeup and skin care to our Elkhart downtown! Offering all the necessary tools and makeup products used by the runway professionals.

In addition to her makeup studio, Bethza has a private line of cosmetics.  At the Expo, Bethza will be offering makeup tips and tricks...goodness knows I need a few tips and tricks!

Dr. Long

Some say that you are never fully dressed without a smile. I have to agree.  Your smile tells a lot about who you are, and can make or break your first impression.

Dr. Long is dedicated to your smile! I'll admit, I'm obsessed with my teeth.  As I've aged, they have moved, and I am not happy about it.  I only recently found out that there are several options for me - and those options don't include the tin-tooth brace face that plagued my 7th grade memories.

I went to Dr. Long's website to get more information, here is what I found out:

Dr. Long has practiced orthodontics in the Northern Indiana area since 2003. It is important to him to raise his family in a community with the same morals and values that he grew up with in his hometown of LaOtto, IN. Dr. Long’s hobbies include spending quality time with his family, vintage Shelby Mustangs, and a variety of sports including weight lifting, running, rugby, and attempting to play golf.

 You may have noticed that our doctor specializes in "Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics." While most people have heard of orthodontics, many are confused by the dentofacial orthopedics part of the title.

Every orthodontist starts out in dental school. Upon completion of dental school, some graduates immediately go into practice as dentists. Others choose to pursue a specialty, which requires additional schooling during a two- to three-year residency program. There are nine specialties sanctioned by the American Dental Association. Some you are likely familiar with: Pediatric Dentistry (dentistry for children), Periodontics (dentistry focusing on the gums), and Oral Surgery.

Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics is one of the nine specialties. Essentially, while orthodontics entails the management of tooth movement, dentofacial orthopedics involves the guidance of facial growth and development, which occurs largely during childhood. Appliances are frequently used — the more familiar braces for orthodontics, and other specialized appliances like headgear and expanders depending on what facial abnormalities are present. Sometimes orthopedic treatment may precede conventional braces, but often the two are accomplished at the same time. So if your child gets braces and headgear, he's actually undergoing orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics.

Being skilled in both areas, our doctor is able to diagnose any misalignments in the teeth and jaw as well as the facial structure, and can devise a treatment plan that integrates both orthodontic and dentofacial orthopedic treatments.

I have some questions for Dr. Long!  Not only about my smile, but my daughter's too.  And honestly, how many times do you get the opportunity to talk with a doctor and get his opinion...for free?

Nerium

Nerium. What to say about this miracle product. I guess I'll start at the beginning with my experience. I am a beauty product junkie - always trying the latest and greatest...and most end up being not so great.

I went to lunch with a friend several months ago and couldn't help but to notice her skin.  Glowing, Perfect, Flawless. I was jealous. I asked what she was doing different.  She said one word. Nerium.

Then another friend asked if I had heard of this thing called Nerium.  She suggested I try it. I took pictures of my face before and after - about 2 weeks later. WOW! I was shocked at the results!

I've been using the product (a night cream) for about a month. My skin looks and feels amazing!  Seriously, when you see me at the expo, feel my face! Well, feel it after you've washed and sanitized your hands (haha!).

Texas Roadhouse

When we were in the first phase of organizing this Expo, I got a call from Texas Roadhouse asking to be a part of the event.  Although I would love to have them, I was trying to figure out the tie-in to health and beauty.  Nicole, from Texas Roadhouse in South Bend, then said to me she wanted to help me raise funds for Hello Gorgeous!

The good people at Texas Roadhouse will be selling gift cards at the Expo - which I think is a great gift for anyone on your holiday gift list that you think " I don't know what to get for them". I might mark off an Uncle, cousin, and several others on my Christmas list by visiting one booth at the Expo...and a portion of the sale of those gift cards will go to Hello Gorgeous!  It's the gift that keeps on giving!

I had to know more about Texas Roadhouse, and why they seem to be so civic minded.  I went to the company website and learned

Sweeties Baked Goods is the perfect place to help you get all those goodies on your table this holiday season.  I mean really...I WISH I had time to make holiday cookies.  My plan is to get some tasty treats from Sweeties, and maybe give as gifts!  And when I'm asked if I baked them myself, I'll blush and simply say "why do you ask?"

Kerri's Avenue Salon...2

In the interest of full disclosure, I love Kerri's.  I've gone to Kerri's for years. I might have a strange attachment to Kerri and all the girls at the salon.

Kerri's Avenue Salon recently opened a new location (by the mall) called Kerri's Avenue Salon...2 (snort - funny!  Get it, too, 2). Kerri's is Michiana's best kept secret. They are experts on the stuff that matters, everything about your hair!  Color, extensions, straightening, cut - you name it, they are good at it.  I've never (NEVER) had a bad experience, or left thinking "well, it'll grow out".


Kerri's offers more than just thy typical salon treatments. They also offer massage, spray tanning, tooth whitening, ItWorks body wraps...and the list goes on.

Girly Girl Boutique is part of Celebrated Events in South Bend.  Owner, Cynthia Basker, has a reputation of creating amazing events.  Honestly, you should see the creativity she has put into the weddings and gatherings that are under her watch.

Pinky Promise

 I got an email from Dionne with Beijo yesterday.  The first part of the email said "I'm going to step it up a notch"  I LOVE that!  She went on to say that BEIJO has a breast cancer purse (Called PINKY PROMISE), and she wanted to do something special with this purse for our fundraiser at the expo.

Being that Hello Gorgeous! supports cancer survivors, it seems fitting that the Pinky Promise purse be a part of our event! 

Dionne will  donate $50 from the sale of every Pink Promise made on-site Saturday directly to HELLO GEORGEOUS. AWESOME!

JR Fox

I've organized several expo type events over the years. JR Fox has always been a part of any expo or sale I've been a part of...and the Peers Health and Beauty Expo is no exception!

If you don't know who JR Fox is, you must not be from Michiana!  For as long as I can remember, JR Fox was the place to go to purchase fine jewelry. Every time I walk into the store on Grape Road (they also have a store on the South side of South Bend on Ireland Road), the people are so nice!  I mean...really helpful and friendly...and when I candidly tell them I want to buy something but my budget can't afford it, they always offer several options for me. 

One misnomer about JR Fox is that they only have diamonds and expensive find jewelry.  While yes, they DO have those pieces, they also have some great cocktail rings and other pieces that are more affordable.

JR Fox is a family business (and who doesn't love supporting a FAMILY business?) with a tradition of quality. Their web site says is best:

Hello Gorgeous!

Some of you might remember that we changed the original date of the Expo due to a big fundraiser that Hello Gorgeous of Hope was having. Organizations that support those who have gone through (or are going through) cancer hold a special place in my heart...especially Hello Gorgeous.   I help women connect inner and outer beauty..and that is exactly what Hello Gorgeous does, and I love that...really, really LOVE that! 

So - when we reorganized our thoughts to the new date (that is December 1, by they way) I wanted to incorporate some kind of message about Hello Gorgeous into the event. Then I was contacted by the good people at the South Bend Texas Roadhouse restaurant, and asked if they could be a part of the event and help raise money for Hello Gorgeous.

I am beyond pleased to be able to bring this great Health and Beauty Expo to Michiana, but also raise some (much needed) funds for this amazing organization.

From the Hello Gorgeous website, here is what they do, and who they are...in their own words:

Hello Gorgeous! is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that provides complimentary, professional makeovers and cosmetic education to all women battling all cancers. We create an experience for these women beginning with a nomination by family and friends that if chosen, includes surprising her with flowers, chocolates and a big “Hello Gorgeous!” She is pampered with spa services such as manicure, pedicure, facial and seated massage, as well as instruction in new makeup application and hair care (or hair substitution) methods advantageous to her individual issues, helping many times to:

•Appear much less affected by her treatments
•Strengthen her confidence
•Empower her to feel more acceptable to the public eye
•And, more importantly, more acceptable to herself

Before departing, we make certain the Gorgeous Woman understands how to reproduce her new look on her own. She is given a supply of the cosmetics, skincare and nail products used to complete her services that day. And all this is done for the Gorgeous Woman at no cost. She pays for nothing.

In order to help more women battling cancer in Michiana and other communities, we have begun the Salon Affiliate program, enlisting existing spa salons in different cities to be certified and perform (12) Gorgeous Visits in a 12-month period in their salon. Our goal is to certify 2 salons in each city of the United States in order to help 500,000 women each year.

It Works...it really does!

Over a year ago my friend told me about this new thing she heard about.  It was some kind of wrap that resulted in the loss of inches and visible cellulite.  It took about 30-45 minutes and the cost was under $30.

Really?  Too good to be true?

I was skeptical. Really skeptical. I do love this particular friend, and completely trust everything she suggests to me...but this was just too much.

As time went by, she became more and more excited about this wrap thing.  I decided to invite her to an event I was going to be at; I asked her to bring her wrap stuff.  I was amazed!  Everyone at the event got wrapped.  As we sat sipping water, waiting for the dinger to go off (advising us that our time being wrapped was up) I thought to myself  "if this thing works, I mean REALLY works...my friend is really on to something women need!"

And work it did.  As a matter of fact, IT WORKS !

I really have no idea how It Works.  I do know that it isn't simply water loss (duh, you are drinking water when you have the wrap on, so that doesn't even make sense).  I went to Lisa Callahan's website to learn more.  Here is what it said:
